How do you elegantly reject a timeshare sales pitch?



I'm going on vacation soon, and since I'm poor, I can live through an 1 1/2 hour presentation about a timeshare to get a cheap vacation with a lot of perks.

Anyway, I'm going into this knowing I'll say "no", but I want a "no" response ready for the sales guy that is so grand he's left speechless, and lets me exit ASAP.

Does anyone have some ideas?

    I always tell them I just don’t have the money and I came for the free trip, and that they can spend all day talking to me about it and still not get a sale, while there are others who might actually do it. So just tell them they are wasting their own time. Usually worked for me… "I have no money. When I get money, if you’re cool, I may buy from you one day. If you’re a jerk, I’m never buying from you or this company again."

    Just say no before they make your wife cry because that cant afford to feed there kids, and will lose there home back to the bank. These people are MEAN!!!

    You don’t have to be polite, they are going to pressure the crap out of you. Anyway listen to the speel and get your cheap vacation. If they don’t let it go just tell them you filed for bankruptcy last year.

    My wife and I pretty much tell them that we are only there for the vacation. They are understanding because you aren’t doing anything new to them. Its not like its coming out of their pockets.

    It’s easier to tell them the truth. Ask what the financial requirements are. When advised of the income minimums politely tell them that you don’t qualify, thank them for their time and expense and depart quietly. They know that most folks either don’t qualify or are not interested in their program. If 2-5% of the ‘vacationers’ buy the program their money is well spent. Have a good time and tell them the truth – this will ease your mind and conscience and you will not ‘dread’ the interview and its aftermath.

    I think the answer is in your question. You are poor and cannot afford a timeshare. I assume you have no cash and no credit. You might want to point this out to the pitch man right away.

    Salesmen do not want to waste their time on people who are not qualified. Another point is you can talk loudly (and honestly) about how bad an investment in time shares is. I’m sure that the salesman will not want you around if you are throwing water on the plan.

    The people who have time shares (who I know) end up trying to trade vacation locations and often do not use or rent their slot.

    Good luck. However, you are obligated to listen to the pitch since you agreed to the terms. Perhaps others who have attended will have other good ideas for you.
