CARLSBAD ---- One of the owners of the Carlsbad Boat Club property is planning to take his development plans to the City Council within the next month after failing to win the support of the city's Planning Commission. The two men are proposing to put 25 vacation time-share condominium units on the Adams Street site along the northern edge of Agua Hedionda Lagoon. The development plans have twice been before the Planning Commission, and earlier this month the panel voted 4-2, with one member absent, to deny Courtney and Pfankuch the permits they needed to proceed. At the May 7 Planning Commission meeting, staff members said they shared the developers' frustration with the challenges of the site. They say the timeshares will have all the issues that "temporary" occupants bring ---- trash, parties and noise ----- without the extensive management that a hotel would have. Initially, plans called for 26 timeshare units, but city staff and the commission asked that the project be scaled back in November. read more
